How to Answer Questions about HIV and other STDs from Clients

Family planning clinic staff are often asked about HIV and other STDs. This workshop will help you to answer them; not just with correct information, but in a way that will help clients use the knowledge in their own lives.

The day will begin with a review of the most common STDs, but will focus mostly on how to work with clients at multiple points during a family planning clinic visit.

  • Nurses (LVNs and RNs)
  • Community Health Workers
  • Other interested program staff

Program Topics & Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • List 5 common misconceptions about STI transmission/prevention
  • Identify the most common questions clients have about STIs and be prepared to answer them correctly
  • Demonstrate how to answer difficult questions about STIs using techniques that increase the client’s knowledge and improves client’s perception of risk

Continuing Education

There is an additional $15.00 administration fee, per certificate, payable on site.

Nursing

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP 12241, for 6.5 contact hours.

Health Education

The California Family Health Council is designated as a provider of Category I continuing education contact hours in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Health educators attending this program may report up to 5.5 contact hours.
